Dr. Kentya C. Ford, earned a DrPH in Health Education and Health Promotion at University of Texas-Houston School of Public Health in May 2005. She also completed a three-year postdoctoral fellowship and the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Department of Behavioral Science, in 2008 and recently became a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES). Presently, Dr. Ford is an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Austin, College of Pharmacy and an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
As a health promotion professional, Dr. Ford’s overarching program of research focuses on addressing health risk behaviors to reduce health disparities in underserved populations. To this end, Dr. Ford has extensive background in the development and implementation of tobacco prevention and cessation programs among at- risk youth, young-adults and healthcare providers in underserved populations. Her research has extended into the areas of healthy eating and physical activity, religion/spirituality, and overall health/wellbeing among adolescents and young adults. Dr. Ford has published several peer-reviewed papers and has co-authored two book chapters, both focusing on smoking prevention and cessation. She is a NIH trainee grant recipient and a two-time recipient of the National Institute of Health’s Loan Repayment Program.
